Spring Home Maintenance Checklist: Get Your Home Ready for the Season!

Ahh, Spring—the season of rebirth, renewal, and realizing just how much dust has settled over winter. The other day, our 4-year-old said, "The days feel better because the sun is out longer."

And you know what? I totally agree, kid.

More daylight = more time to expand your joy! And maybe, just maybe, a little extra time to give your home some much-needed TLC.

Spring in Northern Colorado means melting snow, the start of wildfire season, and a whole lot of sunshine. So let’s roll up those sleeves (or hire someone—no judgment here!) and tackle the must-dos to keep your home happy and healthy:

1. Clear Those Gutters

Winter in Colorado can be rough on gutters. Ice, leaves, and other debris love to camp out up there. Clogged gutters lead to water damage, and trust me, that’s a nightmare. So grab a ladder and some gloves—or better yet, call a pro—and make sure water can flow freely before those April showers hit. Need a roofing recommendation? We highlight recommend Brahma Roofing and Construction.

2. HVAC Check-Up: Because Summer is Coming

Before we hit those scorching summer days, make sure your HVAC system is in tip-top shape. Change the filters, schedule a professional tune-up (Polar Bear Heating & Air is owned by a local family!), and test your AC now—before you're stuck sweating in July, begging your ceiling fan to do more.

3. Inspect Your Roof & Siding

Heavy snow and ice can do a number on your roof and siding. Look for missing shingles, cracks, or any signs of wear. Catching small issues now can save you from costly repairs down the road.

4. Spruce Up Your Outdoor Spaces

Decks, patios, and fences have been battling the elements all winter. Give them a good cleaning, check for damage, and reseal if needed. And if you’re dreaming of backyard BBQs and warm evening hangs, now’s the time to get that patio furniture out of hibernation!

5. Wildfire Season Prep: Be Ready, Just in Case

Living in Colorado means being mindful of wildfire risks. Take time to clear dry leaves and debris from around your home, trim back trees and bushes, and create a defensible space. A little prevention now can make a big difference later.

6. Check Your Sprinkler System

Before you turn those sprinklers on for the season, do a quick inspection. Look for leaks, broken heads, and any signs of damage from freezing temps. Your lawn will thank you (and so will your water bill).

7. Deep Clean, But Make It Fun

Open the windows, blast some music, and tackle that deep clean. Baseboards, windows, closets—go all in. And if you find something you haven’t used in a year? Maybe it’s time to donate it and lighten the load. Spring is about fresh starts, after all!
